Sports Teams

San Francisco Giants: A Giant in Sports

San Francisco Giants: A Giant in Sports: San Francisco Giants is a Major League Baseball team that is based in San Francisco, California. The team is playing in the West Division of the National League. The team is considered as one of the most successful teams in the Major Baseball League because of the titles that they had won since the team was founded in 1883. History: The team was founded in 1883 as the New York Giants. After the franchise was moved to San Francisco in 1958, the team's name was changed to San Francisco Giants. Because the team had been one of the oldest teams in American baseball, they have won the most number of wins in the American baseball history. When the team was still based in New York, they had played in the Polo Grounds stadium in Manhattan. They have moved to the Seals Stadium when the team had moved to California in 1958. The Giants had used the stadium as their ballpark for more than a year before they moved to the Candlestick Park in 1960. The Giants had used the said stadium for thirty nine years before they moved to the AT&T Park in 2000. The Giants had used the park as the ballpark since. It's now one of the most recognizable ball parks in the US. Other Nicknames: The Giants had been called as the New York Gothams in 1883 to 1884. They then changed their name to New York Giants in 1885, before they were brought to California in 1958. Aside from their official name, the San Francisco Giants had gained various nicknames. The Giants had also been called as The Jints, The Orange and Black, The G-Men, Los Gigantes, The Gyros, Boys from the Bay and The Seals. The team had been called The Orange and Black because of their uniform, which is in black, orange and cream. Titles: The San Francisco Giants had won quite a number of titles since its foundation in the year 1882. The Giants had already taken home seven World Series Championship titles in 1905, 1921, 1922, 1933, 1954, 2010 and 2012. The team had also won 22 NL Pennant titles in 1888, 1889, 1904, 1905, 1911, 1912, 1913, 1917, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1933, 1936, 1937, 1951, 1954, 1962, 1989, 2002, 2010 and 2012. The Giants had also won eight division titles in 1971, 1987, 1989, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2010 and 2012. They had also taken home a Wild Cards berth title in 2002.
