Sports Teams

San Diego Padres: From Failure to Success

San Diego Padres: From Failure to Success: San Diego Padres, a major League Baseball team based in San Diego, started together in 1969. The team plays in the Western Division of the National League. They are one of the only two teams that originally came from California, along with the Los Angeles of Anaheim. The Padres part of the team's moniker means 'Fathers', which is the term used to name the Franciscan priests that founded San Diego. History: The Padres had started out as a minor baseball team in 1936. Only a year after, they have won the PCL title in 1937. The team was then lead by Ted Williams, a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer. Thirty years later, the San Diego Padres joined Major League Baseball and started competing at professional baseball in 1969. During the team's first years as member of the Major League Baseball, the Padres did not win major tournaments. They had lost numerous tournaments, which made four of the seasons that they played at as a failure. But after some time, the team had began to pick up their pace and had started improving their winnings and their stats. They had won National League West Championships and National League Championships. Titles and Awards: Since San Diego Padres had improved their play, the team had won 5 National League West titles. The team had also reached the World Series two times. And though they did not win on those two seasons, they have achieved various awards and titles on different tournaments. The team's most winning season is during the 1998 season when they have reached the 98-64 record. They had also been the winners of the Western Division Titles and League Pennant the same year. The team had numerous players that had won various awards in the Major League Baseball industry. In 1996, the team's player, Ken Caminiti, was awarded as the Most Valuable Player. The Cy Young award was also given to some of the players from San Diego Padres: Randy Jones in 1976, Gaylord Perry in 1978, Mark Davis in 1989 and Jake Peavy in 2007. Aside from the awards that were given to the team players of Padres, the team had also received awards as a whole. Some of the awards that were awarded to the San Diego Padres were Warren C. Giles Trophy in 1984 and 1988. The team was also awarded with the National League West Champion title in the years 1996, 2005 and 2006.
