Torii Hunter: An Award-Winning Baseball Player

Torii Hunter: An Award-Winning Baseball Player: Torii Hunter is a professional baseball player (right fielder) for the Detroit Tigers of the Major League Baseball. He was born in July 18, 1975 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Standing 6 feet and 2 inches and weighing 225 pounds, he was a 1st round (20th) pick of the 1993 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Major League Baseball Career: After graduating in high school, he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 1993 MLB Draft. He debuted in the Major League as a pinch runner on the 22nd of August - four years after the draft. He wasn't a regular player then, not until 1999 when he started appearing in the Twins' games regularly. A decade of playing for the Minnesota Twins had him play 135 games. A year after being selected as part of the regular roster for the Twins, Torii Hunter shocked a lot of people with his batting skills. In the midyear of the 2000-2001 MLB season, he went on with a two homerun and 7-RBI game. Baseball of America named him as the Most Exciting Player in the Pacific Coast League and the Best Defensive Outfielder of 2000. With his outstanding performance in the next MLB Season, he got his second Best Defensive Outfielder Award and his first Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He appeared in the All-Star Game in 2002, but struggled the next year offensively with a lesser batting average. Surprisingly, he still won his consecutive Golden Glove Awards until 2005 when he had an injury and only played half the 2005 MLB Season. The next year, he got his career high that led to the team's division title. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Detroit Tigers: Torii Hunter turned down the $45 million contract for the Twins and signed the five-year contract worth $90 million offered by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2007. Two years later, he got into the list of the 50 greatest players in baseball of the Sporting News magazine. Again he won the Golden Glove Award in that year until 2009 (also the year when he got the Silver Slugger Award). He started to play with his third team in the MLB, the Detroit Tigers in 2013. Reports say that he got a two-year contract worth $26 million. Notable Achievements: Torii Hunter is a four-time MLB All-Star (2002, 2007, 2009, and 2010). He's a nine-time Golden Glove Award title holder starting from 2001 to 2009. He got his Silver Slugger Award in 2009 and Heart and Hustle Award in 2011.
