Tony Manero and His Notable Achievements

Tony Manero and His Notable Achievements: Tony Manero was an American golfer born on April 4, 1905. His last name was changed from Mainiero to make it easier for people to spell his name. Since he had to play golf and records were vital for his career, he had the letter i removed from his last name to avoid confusion. At the old age of 84, he died at Greenwich Connecticut on October 22, 1989. Not much of his career achievements were recorded. In fact, there are some tournaments that were not recorded - especially the ones outside the PGA Tour. He turned professional at the age of 24 in 1929, and had about 14 professional wins including PGA Tour events. His very first win in the PGA happened the same year he turned professional at the Catalina Open. PGA Tour Event Titles: A year after Tony Manero got the debut win in the Catalina Open (1929), his best year in his career came in 1930 as he won three PGA Tour titles. His 1930 PGA Tour wins include his second title in the Catalina Open, the Pasadena Open, and the Glen Falls Open. His next success in the PGA Tour came two years after his best career year, having the title in the Westchester Open. After two years of being unsuccessful in the U.S. Open events, Tony Manero got the title of the 1934 Carolinas Open, which is organized by the PGA of America (Carolinas section). The next year was also a success as he won the General Brock Hotel Open. His only major win throughout his career happened in 1936 in the U.S. Open. A year later, he got his second win in the Carolinas Open and first win in the New Hampshire Open. From 1938 to 1948, he achieved numerous titles including the Glens Falls Open in 1938, another two titles in the New Hampshire Open in 1939 and 1941, and his last win in the 1948 Westchester Open. After his last championship match play in the PGA Tour in 1944, he was unsuccessful to get more titles until he retired in 1962. He withdrew in The Masters in 1962. Notable Achievements: Tony Manero is definitely one of the pioneer performers in golf, having many achievements in his early golfing years. Although there were events he played at that were not recorded, he is definitely one of the best in his time. All in all, he had 14 professional wins, 8 of those came from the PGA Tour.
