Billy Maxwell � A Bright Beginning
Billy Maxwell is a former professional
golfer having played most of his career during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Texas, Billy Maxwell went to the North Texas
State College, leading the team that won the NCAA Division I Championship on four
consecutive occasions between 1949 and 1952. Billy Maxwell was also the US Amateur title winner in 1951 and turned
into a full professional in 1954 after serving the army from 1952 to 1954 that were impressed by his exploits as an
Billy Maxwell made an immediate impact as soon as he joined the Tour putting in some strong displays at the very
beginning of his career. Furthermore, Billy Maxwell just missed out on making the Ryder Cup team in 1963 after being
touted as the next big thing, but he made amends and was named in the team of 1965.
All in all, Maxwell won 7 titles on the PGA
Tour circuit, which is not that bad a record but what could have been a very glittering career did not live up
to the expected heights. Moreover, Billy Maxwell did not play in the Champions Tour for too long as well, thereby
ruining his chances of landing some more silverware on the way.
