Michael Jack Schmidt

Michael Jack Schmidt was born in September 27th 1949 in Dayton, Ohio. Schmidt was a Hall of fame third baseman. He was one of the best third baseman Major League Baseball ever witnessed. Schmidt was among the greatest athletes of his team, Philadelphia, Phillies. He was famous for his unusual batting stance. By pitching inside, it was not possible to jam him. Going back to his early day, Schmidt graduated from Fairview High School in the year 1967 in Dayton, Ohio.

As a student of Ohio University, Athens, Schmidt joined the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

He played for various less significant teams. His perseverance and hard work paid off when he was officially signed by the Philadelphia Phillies on 12th Sept, 1972. His steady rising career-graph witnessed a jerk when Schmidt suffered from a rotator cuff injury. A determined Schmidt made a comeback in the 1989 season where he faced a poor start. Disappointed, he suddenly announced his retirement on the 29th of May in San Diego.

Always referred to as 'Captain Cool', he surprised his followers with his emotional retirement speech. Throughout his career, he set up a huge array of records in both hitting and fielding. Post retirement, Schmidt decided to stay away from baseball and concentrated on philanthropic activities. Schmidt was undoubtedly one of the most popular players of the Philadelphia Phillies.
