Dave Winfield - An Allrounder

Dave Winfield was born on the third of October in the year 1951. He is a former American Major League Baseball player. Dave Winfield played over a span of 22 years and he represented six teams: New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, California Angels, Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians.

In the year 2004, ESPN channel named Dave Winfield the 3rd best all-round athlete of all time in any sport. He is a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is currently working as the Executive Vice President of the San Diego Padres and is also an analyst for the ESPN program Baseball Tonight.

Dave Winfield grew up in Minnesota and practiced his sports in the St. Pauls Oxford playground where he met Bill Peterson who was his first coach. By the time Dave Winfield was in High School, he had a towering height of 66 which made him a formidable opponent.

Dave Winfield was promoted by the San Diego Padres directly to the major league where his skills as a pitcher and as a batsman was made good use of. He proved his mettle that season with a spectacular performance. In the year 1981, New York Yankees signed Dave Winfield to a ten year contract of $23 million which made him the highest paid player in the history of the sport.
