Dan Sikes - A Florida Great
Dan Sikes, born in the beach town of Florida and raised in the county of Jacksonville
was a former professional golfer. He attended college at
the University of Florida and represented
the Florida Gators Mens Golf at
the NCAA Championships for three consecutive years between 1951 and 1953.
He was named as
an All American in the year 1952
and created history by becoming the first golfer from the University of Florida to be named as an All American.
Sikes was a very competitive player in his time gaining a reputation of being a very aggressive when he took the
field but off it, he was a very mild mannered person.
Dan Sikes has had 9 wins as a professional golfer, six of
those coming on the PGA Tour and 3 in
the Champions Tour. A list of Sikes six PGA Tour wins is as follows:
1963 - Doral CC Open Invitational
1965 - Cleveland Open Invitational
1967 - Jacksonville Open
1967 - Philadelphia Golf Classic
1968 - Florida Citrus Open Invitational
1968 - Minnesota Golf Classic
Sikes might not have had the trophy laden career that he would have liked but he sure made a mark as a high class
professional and a real competitive golfer.
