Jets Flight Crew for the New York Jets
The Jets Flight Crew is a professional cheerleading squad that is an ever present entity at any of the New York Jetsí home games in the National Football League or the NFL. The crew was established only a few years back in 2006 and was originally known as the Jets Flag Crew. The original squad consisted of only 6 girls with flags instead of the traditional pom-poms. However, in 2007, the group was expanded due to the demands of the game and the crowd and was renamed with its current moniker. The routines that the girls perform at the Jetsí home games are choreographed by the director of the group, Denise Garvey, who herself was a former cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys as well as a Knicks City dancer.
The first time the Flag Crew took to the field was on the 15th of October, 2006 in a match against the Miami Dolphins. The official statement before the launch of the crew was that these girls, who replaced their male counterparts were flag bearers and not cheerleaders. But due to the very easy acceptance of the Crew by the fans, the team decided to expand the squad and create the Jets Flight Crew. The reason cited by the team on this expansion was that it wanted to enhance the game viewing experience of the fans by adding more enthusiasm and energy so that they could cheer their home team on to victory.
Currently, there are 38 members in the squad, an increase from the original 10 Flight Crew members from the first season. The unique thing about the Jets Flight Crew is that unlike most other cheerleading squads for NFL teams, it does not have any fixed captain at all. The swimsuit calendar of the Flight Crew was introduced in 2009 and it has become somewhat of an annual tradition. Knicks City Dancers for the New York Knicks.
