Sports Cheerleaders

Boise State University Cheerleaders

Boise State University cheerleaders, under coach Julie Stevens have gone on to win the National Championship small coed USA Collegiate Nationals in 2008, 2010 and 2011. It is ranked in the top ten cheerleading teams in the U.S.A.

The coed squad is made up of twenty six members along with mic-men. Being a co-ed squad, the BSU cheerleaders do a lot of stunts, which include round off back handspring, multiple handsprings, elevator, straight up lib, all body positions, toss hands, walk on hands to name a few. They cheer the university sports team at the football volleyball soccer wrestling and gymnastic meets. The candidates interested to tryout in the spring semester can watch practice sessions at the Boise State University Keith and Catherine Stien Band Hall, with prior permission from the coach. Only seniors can take part in the tryouts though juniors and freshmen can come and watch. They also have strict rule that interested candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 or more and must maintain it in order to carry on cheering.

The BSU cheerleaders have a yearly practice plan chalked out, where they have the schedule divided into summer fall winter and spring, depending on the events they have to participate in during that time, like sports meets, fundraising events, pep rallies, alumni association events, choreography and competitions.

The BSU cheerleaders do not get any scholarship but they do get free uniforms and their travel expenses are paid by the university. The squad enjoys perks for being a part of the cheering team, which includes clothes, shoes and accessories from Nike or other sponsors- warm ups, t-shirts, sweatshirts, practice wear. Apart from these they also get discounts on salons and gym memberships.

The cheerleaders in BSU are committed to their spirit program while having a strong competitive spirit in them which can be seen their presence on the sports fields as well as there performance in the competitive level.
